XIX JORNADAS DE TEA: “EXPLORING SUCCESS”.
Well, ladies and gentlemen, the TEA conference (Teachers of English Association, that is, not Twinings, Tetley and PG Tips) took place between Wednesday 23rd January, and lunchtime on Saturday Jan 26th. It was held in Puerto de la Cruz, with glorious weather welcoming the visitors to the Hotel Semiramis, perched immediately above the ocean. The Teide sported an immaculate, white crown, and La Palma was clearly visible over the waves. The scene was set….
The adjectives that springs to mind most readily are “quiet”, though that is not necessarily a bad thing, sometimes, and “user-friendly”. The speakers included Mark Levy (Pearson), Mario Rinvolucri, Rob Bexon and Sam Pickard (Burlington) – all repeating their ‘hot favourite’ status awarded at the GRETA do in September –,and from the islands, Alejandro López de Vergara, José Alberto Luís Estévez, Annie Park, María Ángeles García Casanova, Shaun O’Hara…………..
The feedback was generally very positive as the talks were given high grades for quality –with one notable exception I have no qualms about mentioning. It would seem that one of our colleagues has earned himself the ‘Men Behaving Badly’ Award for attitudes which would have brought out a side of my character few ever see, had I sat in on his talk(s); luckily, I didn’t.
The new Junta was voted in, led by Antonio Sergio Pérez Marrero from Las Palmas, and they seem keen to bring new life to TEA, building it back up to previous glory.
